Global AAC’s mission is to bring Speech Generating Devices, also known as AAC devices, to people who cannot afford this technology in developing countries. These devices enable people with severe communication disorders such as cerebral palsy and ALS.
In the USA they are also known by another acronym … SGD – Speech Generating Device. The two main sources for funding AAC and SGDs in the USA and other developed countries are health insurance and public schools.
In developing countries the situation is not quite as fortunate. The need is just as great. However, the ability to fund these devices is not nearly what it is elsewhere.
Global AAC seeks to solicit donations of speech devices and brings these devices directly to the users in need. Contribution of speech devices can be made directly from:
- Original manufacturers
- Schools and clinics which are looking to recycle equipment which is no longer used
- Persons who may have passed away following their use of a device
- State Assistive Technology recycling programs
For each donor, a donation certificate is provided, as well as a follow up showing how their donation was used. Photographic examples may be provided, as shown on this web site.Global AAC’s mission is to bring AAC devices to people who cannot afford this technology but need it to communicate. AAC … Augmentative and Alternative Communication has been a growing field in developed countries, especially in the last 40 years. AAC devices enable people with severe speech communication disorders to communicate with others.
